When the sun is shining, what could be better than cruising around in your sports car? In today’s economy, it’s difficult to get your hands on a sweet set of wheels, but thanks to Automoblox, owning the coolest thing on four wheels has become child’s play. Designed by designer Patrick Calello, the innovative toy car series is an eye-catching and trendy product that teaches kids to build the vehicles of their dreams in sleek fashion.
The cars consist of basic parts (a nose, a body, a tail, a windshield, four tires and rims), which interlock like Legos, and are interchangeable among the other vehicle types offered by Automoblox. You can build a sports car, a convertible, an SUV, a pick-up truck, or a sedan, and they all come in a barrage of colors that may or may not induce chromatic ADD. The sweet rubber tires wrap around a set of oddly amusing but sleek plastic rims, and the tread is a unique blend of curves and lines.
I bought an Automoblox Mini for my nephew for $12, but a regular full-sized Automoblox will run you about $38. The Minis also come in a nifty 3-pack that costs about $30. If I weren’t so broke, I probably would’ve bought a 3-pack for myself, since the bright colors are an incentive to collect and display these around the house or on the office desk.
Aside from being really awesome, the toys have also received Platinum in the “Best Toy” category from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, one of the only independent children’s media review company in the world.
The only minor complaint that I have is about the design of box, since the font is white on a yellow background (Dude, WTF!). It’s simply hard to see the letters, but other than that, it’s really not a big problem. The most important thing is what’s inside it.
